My original plan was to put my hair in a weave for the month of February as part of my 4-1 HRC Action Plan. But then I decided to leave my hair out as my way of celebrating Black History Month this year. To achieve the look above, I took my hair out the 4-day old chunky corn rows it was in.
Due to the weather and the tendency for my hair to shrink very quickly, I decided to put half of my hair in a bun, and I just played with styles with the front half. I left the back hair in a bun for about 5 days.
When the bun started to feel loose and "crunchy" (lack of moisture I suppose), I decided to take it down for a co-wash. Then I did about 16 Bantu-Knots overnight with a mixture of argan oil ecostyler gel and coconut oil. The next morning, I took out the knots and ended up with what looked like a wash n go. I wore this hair out for the day despite the freezing temperature. But I loosely wrapped a silk scarf around it when I was outside to prevent any frozen hair strand from being blown away!
*Notice how my hair shrunk up FAST! This is also one of the reasons I don't wear it out*
I think I did this style in the last week of January, after taking my braids out. Not sure if you can notice the difference in the coil pattern at the back vs. the front of my head (4th pic). That was the first time I sure noticed it in pictures.
I'm pleased to announce that I haven't had a lot of breakage in the past 2 weeks that my hair has been out, this is mostly due to a few techniques I've been practicing.
What are you doing to your mane during this month of February?
