HRC Style 5: Modern African Threading/Irun Kiko/Isi Owu + Flat Twists. | Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Hairstyle

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie at the Premiere of  "Half of a Yellow Sun" at the London Film Festival. Now who says African threading is only for village people?
Yes! I did it again! Except this time, I modernized the look with flat twists. I have to confess that this isn't my original idea, I owe all copyright to Onyeka of Myreborn Hair. I for one have never seen someone cornrow or flat twist a part of their hair when they do African Threading until I saw Onyeka do it. I thought the style was unique and so I immediately knew I was going to replicate it for my next HRC 2 styles.
Style took 4 hours, though I could have been faster
Pre Styling
I did a MAJOR deep conditioning treatment to revive my extremely parched hair which has had its share in this Fall weather.

Styling
I took down the twists I wore to stretch my hair for this style and proceeded to threading. I took my time with this style because I intend to keep it for 2weeks, though I might have to redo the flat twists to refresh that part of my head.
You can accessorize the look as you wish. I used a big flower for this photo shoot.
I think I will try to do them smaller next time, so they look like twists, that way, I won't have to pack them together, I could just let them fall.

Post Styling: Maintenance
- I plan to spritz it at least once a week with my hair softening spritz (minus the conditioner to avoid build up) and I will apply my oil mix on my scalp when I start to feel an itch or when it feels dry
- To prolong the "life expectancy" of the style, I usually wear a silk scarf when I'm in the house, sleeping and getting dressed
- To change up the look, I will wear an hair accessory and redo the flat twists after a week
- Since it's cold outside, I usually wear a head wrap when I'm outside to protect my scalp from the cold

I love both hairstyles *source*

Would you wear African Threading out to work, dinner and wherever else?

  1. I really like! You did a very good job. I like the way you 'packed' them together. I can only achieve that if I add some thread to the tip of the hair. My hair isn't long enough to pack like that.

  2. Thank you.i find packing and tying everything together to be a bit tricky. I had to braid the front part and try my best with everything else at the back.
