To keep moisture in, I did the green house effect whereby, I wore a plastic cap/bag under my hair scarf or bonnet. And about every other night, I would spritz my hair with a mixture of aloe Vera juice, water, olive oil and moisturizing conditioner after twisting the hair up.
The drawback with the green house effect (GHE) was that my hair didn't smell nice in the morning because it felt like I had trapped hair sweat on my head overnight. The smell went away as soon as the hair had fully dried in the morning. But to ensure that my hair smells nice, I applied a bit of my oil blend which has a variety of sweet smelling essential oils in it. Another thing to keep in mind is that the GHE doesn't allow the spritz applied in the hair the night before to evaporate and dry overnight, so it's important to remove the bag from the hair as soon as you wake up in the morning to allow the hair to begin its drying process before stepping out. But since the weather has warmed up a bit, it's okay to go out with slightly damp hair as nature will take care of the rest itself.
