This is my first time doing twist and also using kinky twists, so the first few twists didn't turn out great. Infact, I almost gave up after the third twist because the twists kept unraveling. But as a Mane Captain, I couldn't be defeated, I persevered all the way through, I got better and better until I achieved near perfection on the last braid.
After deep conditioning and trimming my hair last week, I immediately put it in twists until I had the time and patience to put my hair in extensions, as part of my HRC 4-1 Action Plan.
On Pre-twisting: The last time I pre-twisted my hair before braiding it with "Expression" hair extensions, I found that my braid came out smoother than the last time I just braided my hair in its kinky form. I guess the reason is because the hair was already stretched and smooth, and so it blended in well with the extensions. Also, twisting my hair prior to putting extensions in speeds up the time spent braiding since the hair has already been parted, separated and detangled. So the only thing I have to do is to untwist each twist and braid/twist the extensions in. This is also a great interim style to put in while you think of what to do with your hair next or until you manage to find the time to put in extensions or any other style which might take hours.
Pre twisting isn't necessary for kinky twists because you don't have to worry about your hair blending in since kinky twist is an afro friendly hairstyle.
Week 1 Hairstyle: I wore my hair in a bun in the first week. At night, I would take the bun down and leave it in a ponytail with the hair band still in my hair; I would then secure it in my satin bonnet.
What I like about the hair and style: it's light and very easy to put into a pony tail, a regular braid with the same thickness would require a big scrunchy. Also, I definitely wouldn't have been able to wear a bun all week long, because the heavy bun would weigh my head back!
What I don't like: My scalp was itchy the first few days, probably due to elements from the extension. However, the itchiness stopped after spraying my scalp with an anti-itch spray for two days in a row (content: water, olive oil, tea tree oil and peppermint oil). The brown hair on the other hand felt a bit more smooth. But then again, I find colored extensions to be of an inferior quality when compared to the natural hair colored ones.
Will I buy this brand again? Definitely not the colored ones, Although I think i'll buy a different brand next time, just because i'm a curious natural ;) I might use the hair again though, since I only plan to keep it in my hair for about 3-4 weeks.
How are you wearing your hair this month?

ReplyDeleteLol, I had to show a girl at my Church in Beijing how to do the Rosette style. I think you can look up how to do the style on YT. I don't have video instructions for now, so I'll have to refer everyone to other people's videos for now
