Post Deep-Conditioning Scalp Itchiness

El Capitolio, Havana, Cuba

I've noticed in the last two years that my scalp would often itch after a deep conditioning treatment. The itchiness only occurs after washing out the conditioner and would last for just a few minutes after that. This itchiness isn't a result of having dry or dirty scalp or the type of water I use to wash my hair. It's also not a result of the particular brand of conditioner I use.

Mane Problem
I find that my scalp feels itchy regardless of the type of conditioner used, be it protein or moisture based, plant derived and chemically derived conditioner. When I say itchy, I mean it's very maddening! I don't even feel such sensation when my scalp is dry or dirty.  I haven't been able to find anything online that talks about the chemical content in conditioners that causes this allergic reaction.

I started washing and deep conditioning in sections to reduce breakage. I use kids hair clips to hold the ends together to prevent unraveling.

As you can see, I didn't apply the conditioner directly on my scalp. But it still felt itchy afterwards

Mane Solution
To deal with this problem, I once applied conditioner to my hair, avoiding about an inch of my roots to see how my scalp would turn out afterwards. Well, i'm happy to say that my "mane experiment  was successful., However, since I didn't 'wash" my scalp, I felt like my scalp wasn't clean, so I had to shampoo my hair and scalp the following week.

Moving Forward
Since I only wash my hair every 2-3weeks, I plan to first wash my scalp separately and then apply the deep conditioner to my hair, making sure to keep about an inch of the roots conditioner free :(

An overnight twist out. My twists has to be left in for at least 48hours to achieve a near perfect twist out.

Do you experience any allergic reaction or discomfort after using a particular hair product? What do you do to minimize or eliminate this?
