Fall Hair Therapy: Protein Deep Conditioning Treatment

Arsenal
It's been a while since I did a protein treatment, this is mostly because my hair stopped taking protein treatments, so I had no choice but to give the hair a break and continue with my moisturizing treatments. Since my hair isn't really damaged, it's not in a desperate need of protein treatment, so there's no need to force protein on it. Also, many hair product has some form of protein in it anyway, so my hair has actually been receiving a tiny dose of protein each time I apply a hair product on my hair.

So for today's hair spa, I wanted to try the highly rated Aubrey Organics GPB conditioner to see how my hair responds to it.
Quick Review: The good thing about this conditioner is that it also has moisturizing properties in it, and so you don't need to do another moisturizing treatment afterwards. The only downside is the price and it's a bit difficult to distribute it on the hair, unless its diluted with some water and sprayed on the hair.

Treatment Step by Step

Step 1: Hot Oil treatment
- I warmed a mixture of olive oil and castor oil in a warm water bath and applied it on dry hair
- I twisted my hair into about 8 sections and covered with a plastic bag and a cotton t-shirt
- I allowed the mixture to sit in my hair for a while

Step 2: Cleanse
- I used Tresemme deep cleanse shampoo to wash the oil out of my hair and to prepare my hair for the protein treatment. A shampoo wash is always recommended before a protein treatment as this will allow the tiny protein molecules and other hair benefiting properties in the conditioner to properly deposit on the hair shaft without having to compete with prior product deposits in the hair for space. I also chose to use this clarifying shampoo because I haven't had a good cleanse in a while, and I wanted to make sure that the expensive product will be able to do its job properly.

Step 3: Protein treatment
- I applied the product on small sections of my hair and twisted them.
- I covered my hair with the same plastic bag and cotton t-shirt
- I allowed the treatment to work through my hair for quite some time

Step 4: Rinse, Moiturize & Seal
- I rinsed the product out of my hair using cool (not cold) water
- Then I used Jason conditioner as a leave-in and sealed with castor oil.
- I also applied some of the castor oil on my scalp
- I then twisted my hair into about 17 chunky twists to keep it stretched for the next style.

Protein Treatments are crucial in the cold season as we want to make sure that our hair remains strong and less prone to damage and breakage in the dry season.

Product Find Canada: Tresemme & Olive Oil were purchased from Wal-Mart, while the rest of the products were purchased from S&H Health Foods

How do you do a protein treatment? Is your hair also protein sensitive like mine is?
