DIY | Infused Rosemary Herbal Oil as a sealant and/or hair growth oil

Rosemary and olive oil are two popular cooking ingredients which are used in the kitchen to create delicious eats. Just like rosemary herbs and olive oil are good for our body, applied externally, these two ingredients are also great for our hair and skin.
Rosemary oil is often used to stimulate hair growth while olive oil is used to smooth and soften the hair, thus creating silky smooth hair.

As I enjoy mixing various ingredients together, I decided to make my very own herbal oil for the first time! I actually added bit of coconut oil to my mixture and left it for about 5 months because I was too lazy to sift the oil. But 3 months is the ideal time for the herbal oil.

Directions:
1. Place 1-2tbsp fresh or dried rosemary leaves in a small glass jar
2. Add 1/4 cup olive oil
3. Tightly close jar and store away in a cool and dark place for about 2-3 months. Until rosemary leaves turns black and olive oil has become a bit darker
4. Sift oil by pouring mixture into a sieve and pour rosemary oil into a clean bottle.
5. Use as desired!

I use this oil for all my body and hair care needs. For my skin, I would either mix it with my lotion or just apply it directly on my skin. And for my hair, I would add a bit to my hair & scalp oil which I apply directly on my scalp, seal my hair with, use as a prepoo hot oil treatment, or add a bit to my deep conditioning treatment. I will also add a bit to my whipped shea butter. In other words, this herbal oil can be used just like your regular oil.

A Faster Recipe
If you don't have the patience to wait for 2-5 months, you can place the jar with olive oil & rosemary in it in a warm water bath, allow the oil to warm up so that the juice in the rosemary can steep like tea into the olive oil. You might have to keep changing the water when it starts to cool down so that you can get the most nutrients out of the rosemary leaves as possible.

    1. it's a cooking herb, so you can get it from any grocery store. It can be found in the spice aisle

  2. I made this once but the rosemary scent was so strong that I felt like I was cooking or marinating something in my hair all the time so I ended up using it as a pre poo instead.

    1. lol, yes I think that's a nice way to use it. I added a bit of extravirgin coconut oil in mine, so that masked the rosemary scent. Although I liked the rosemary scent.
